The Eurasian Research Institute invites to participate in the Politics, International Relations and Security Studies Seminar titled “Current Developments of the Iranian Strategy Towards the Caspian Region”, which would be held on December 28, 2017, and given by Lidiya Parkhomchik, Senior research fellow of the Eurasian Research Institute.

Despite the fact that the production of hydrocarbons in the Caspian Sea basin is not a priority for Iran, Tehran attaches special importance to strengthening and consolidating security and economic cooperation with the littoral states. It appears that Iran, which was out of a regional discourse for a long time, comes up with initiatives that can shape new approaches towards the regional development in a broad array of issues, including extraction and transportation of hydrocarbon resources, security cooperation, as well as environmental issues.

During the seminar, there would be a discussion on Iran’s policy toward the Caspian region on the issue of further energy, economic and military interaction with the coastal states focusing on recent changes and emerging trends in the Iranian Caspian strategy.
